Growing up in Pittsburgh with three golf professional brothers and a golf superintendent father put Jan on track for a golf career early on. She began as a golf course designer with legendary architect Tom Fazio, staying there 20 years and rising to a senior position in course design, construction and project management. Her experience as a registered Landscape Architect, Certified Arborist and assistant superintendent provides Jan a unparalleled perspective on the playability, strategy, ecology, and economics of golf courses.
Jan was elected into the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) in 1990 as only the second female member, and was noted in Sports Illustrated Plus lists of the "Top Ten Most Influential Women in the Game of Golf" in December 2000 and February 2005. She is Professor of Turfgrass Management at Hodges University in Florida.
