The contact with a golf club's staff is positive
- from the bag drop, to the golf shop, to the range, during the
round, and to the door on the way out. Unfortunately, the personnel
at many golf facilities, are still guilty of not recognizing a
woman when she comes in their door, not treating her on par with
her male counterparts. If the golf club has caddies, they should
be comfortable caddying for women.
2. Quality Practice Facility
Women represent a large percentage of new golfers.
They want the opportunity to warm up on the practice facility
prior to playing a round of golf. The golf course has a practice
facility with a full-length driving range (not limited to hitting
with irons or restricted-flight golf balls), chipping green, putting
green, and sand bunker area. The driving range tee area is real
grass, not carpeted.
3. On-Course Rest Room Facilities
The golf course has rest rooms available on the
course, not outhouses and not just at the clubhouse.
4. Amenities at the Forward Tees
The golf course strategically places ball washers,
water coolers, and trash containers near the forward tee. If the
ball washers and/or water coolers are not located near the forward
tees, then they are on the golf carts.
5. Female-Friendly Facility
The golf course offers a selection of items for
women in the pro shop, for instance: gloves, visors, shirts, shoes,
and golf balls. The women's locker room is easily accessible and
on par with the men's locker room. Women have access to post their
scores. At some facilities, the computer is in the men's locker
room. The golf club offers a place that is available after golfing
(the 19th hole) to both men and women.
6. Multiple Tee Choices for Women
The golf course offers tee choices so that all guests
can play comfortably at their skill level. Most clubs offer three
or four sets of tees for men and only one rated for women. This,
however, is beginning to change - with tees for juniors, as well.
Specifically, the course has at least two forward tee options
under 6,000 yards. The forward tees on par fives are truly "forward."
The average woman, who hits the ball 130-140 yards with her best
shot, has a chance to reach the fringe on 80% of the par fours
and on half of the par fives.
7. Variety on Par Threes
The distances and the layout of the par three holes
are different from each other. The average female golfer does
not always need a wood to tee off, but can use a mix of irons,
just like the men do.
8. Length of Carry and Number of Carries
The average female golfer can hit the ball far enough
to clear the hazards, whether they come into play right off the
tee or on the second or third shots. Courses with fairways from
tee to green are preferable for higher handicap and newer golfers.
